Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 228 – Flowers

Kim is hosting today’s challenge, Flowers

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the theme.

My card was made in my favourite CAS style – and was just two stamps, masked so the flowers sat inside the jar!

I used a 7 x 5 base card in white, and layered onto that a dark blue mat, followed by a yellow mat (to pick out the colours of the flowers). I used plain white stamping card, onto which I first stamped the jar. I stamped a second image of the jar onto masking paper and cut out the bits that I wanted to show through (in this case the stems of the flowers). I then stamped the flowers over the top, making sure that the stems were in the right place in the jar.

Removing the mask, I coloured the image with alcohol pens – not sure which ones, could have been chameleon, promarkers or hunkydory prisms! I then added a layer of wink of stella clear pen over the water, to make it shimmer. And lastly, I stamped the sentiment. I’m a bit peeved with myself for this as now I have uploaded the picture, it looks uneven at the bottom… I may yet stamp another one onto plain card, and put it in place with a foam pad!

Good luck with the challenge everyone!

Expanding my horizons…

I have been papercrafting for decades, but just recently I have decided to use my sewing machine a bit more, and have taken up quilting.

The first thing I did was to sign up with a monthly class, along with my friend S. We were started off on a simple block, using English Paper Piecing (where quite a bit of it is done by hand). We had homework, to finish off our handsewing before the next class. It was fun…

And then the second class got cancelled, due to a family emergency. So I felt a bit deflated – I was KEEN! And I found a group/challenge on facebook which provided patterns and I thought “What the heck!” and launched into it.

This was machine paper piecing though – and I won’t lie, the first block was frustrating. I finished my test pieces (with fabric I didn’t plan to use) after a couple of false starts and was quite pleased with it.

I’ve now completed the first 3 – blocks 4 and 5 came out on Friday, but I have been doing a super secret (to be revealed later) project, so haven’t started on them yet. The orange one was the first test piece…

It is all coming along. The next official class is next Saturday, so I am looking forward to that, and hope to get the next 2 of the facebook challenge done before the next blocks are released on Friday! It’s all go….

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 227 – Love Love Love

Maike is hosting today’s challenge, Love, Love, Love

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the theme.

My card was made using my favourite 6 x 6 size black card base. Next I cut a piece of white card with a linen effect, slightly smaller and rounded the corners. Out of that, I cut a number of heart shapes using dies, and cut the next size down for each in red cardstock. I used a red fineliner pen to add some faux stitching around the white card and a black fineliner to add faux stitching around the hearts.

I mounted the white card on the top of the cardbase, so that the black showed through the heart shapes, and then layered the red heart shapes into the appropriate hole, after having stamped my sentiments using black versafine ink onto the red hearts.

Finally, I printed out my “Happy Valentines Day” onto white card and cut it into a flag shape, cutting a red mat to go underneath, and attached it to my card using red and white butchers twine.
