Crafty Cardmakers challenge 223 – anything but a card

Angela is hosting today’s challenge, Anything But a Card

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, except a card!!! So a scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, will be fine as long as it is not a card.

My project was a clock, with working parts, that I created using an SVG file from the Dreaming Tree, and my scan n cut machine.

I followed the colours they suggested on the website, but I am not sure I really like them – of course, the beauty of using the scan n cut is I could change the colours to suit myself as it only depends on what card I have!

In this case, the brown card was actually kraft card, overstamped with a bark texture stamp using a dark brown ink pad as I didn’t have any wood patterned cardstock to use.  I coloured the flowers using distress inks…

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 222 – Lots of Layers

223 lots of layers with wm

Judy is hosting today’s challenge, Lots of Layers.

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the Lots of Layers theme.

As Christmas is inexorably approaching (and I need to get a wiggle on finishing my cards!) my card this time has got lots of layers – but is a Christmas card!

I used my favourite 6 x 6 card base, and onto that layered some plainish Christmas paper from my stash.   (I should say here that I was inspired to do this card by a demo I saw on Create and Craft by Hobby House – not the same papers or images, but she did use the stamens in this way…)

I had decided to use a Hunkydory Topper Deck card as my image, so cut the other christmas papers in colours to match it that I had to size so I could layer and rotate them as shown.  I mounted the topper deck card onto gold mirri, and positioned it in the centre on foam pads with some pinflair glue gel on them (so I could lift them up to position the stamens in the right place).

To finish the card, I used a white gel pen to put a double row of faux stitching around the edges, stamped a sentiment and made a bow with items from my stash, and put some gems in the corners of the layers.  I’m really happy with it – and it is mostly old stash I’ve had for ages!

Crafty Cardmakers challenge 221 – Explosion of Colour

222 explosion of colourAngela is hosting our challenge today, Explosion of Colour

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the Explosion of Colour theme.

My card was a folding box card, made for a friends son who was going to be 10.  These cards are very easy to do – and are so effective!  And better still, they fold flat to go into an envelope.

I used plain white card for the base and the struts inside and printed off some pictures for the decoration which were cut out and mounted onto black card to make them pop.  I cut out and mounted onto black card the pictures of the characters, too, and attached them to the struts so they appeared to be behind one another, as they would in life.  Finally, I cut out his name and age with dies, and attached them to the struts too.

There was space on the back for a personal message, and I put the happy birthday sentiment on the back of the box.
