Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 208 – Bunnies/Chicks or Eggs

Kim is hosting today’s challenge, Bunnies, Chicks or Eggs
As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the Bunnies, Chicks or Eggs theme. 208 chicks3

My project was an exploding box for Easter.  I really like these little boxes – complete with a surprise in the centre!   They are very easy to make and need no special dies or equipment to achieve this effect.

My box was made using plain white card and was mat and layered with shades of yellow paper printed from a serif craft artist digikit.  In the centre of the box was a small basket – I have filled it with chicks that I bought in The Works, but you could easily fill it with the small Cadbury mini eggs.  Warning – the mini eggs are not a good idea for small children – some have died after getting them stuck in their throats.208 chicks1

The basket was made using an SVG file that I found and cut out with my scan n cut, but you could use straight card and get the same effect.   I put some shredded paper in the base of the basket for the chicks to sit on…

There were Eggs in the printed paper on the outside of the box, on the inner flaps were pictures of bunnies, and also on the small basket.

Good luck with the challenge everyone!

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 207 – Go Green

207 go green

Judy is hosting today’s challenge, Go Green. In honour of St. Patrick’s day this coming Saturday, we would like to see your green creations. They do not have to be monochromatic, only green, but we would like to see the major part of your creation is green. Please don’t just stick a leaf in the corner and think it qualifies! We also don’t want St. Patrick’s day themed cards/projects unless the majority of them is green, as the challenge is about the colour green.

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the Go Green theme.

My card was made as a bon voyage card for my nephew’s girlfriend who went back to Canada  and all the images came from a Debbi Moore cd.  Sometimes, when you don’t have time to do the toppers and backgrounds from scratch a cd image can be super helpful.

I used a 6 x 6 base card, and onto that put a black mat.  I layered the base image onto the mat and stuck the ribbon across it 2/3 of the way down.  I cut the topper out and matted it onto the card using foam pads so it was raised.  It hasn’t come out very well, but I coloured the clock faces with some clear wink of stella pen to give it some shimmer.

I used some bakers twine to hang my guardian angel charm, and attached it to the card using hot glue, and covered the centre of the bow with a flower gem.

Lastly, I stuck 3 gems in the top right hand corner of the card.

Good luck with the challenge – I look forward to seeing everybody’s entries!
