Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 180 – New Beginnings

januaryJac is hosting our first challenge of 2017, and the theme is New Beginnings. We want to see your creations related to new beginnings, that might be the arrival of a baby, a new relationship, marriage, engagement, a new year’s resolution even!

As usual anything you care to enter is fine, a card, scrap layout, mixed media piece, some home decor, as long as it meets the New Beginnings theme.

Please remember our 15 total challenge rule!

My card is one I produce regularly for new babies…. it’s very simple to do and very effective.  I started with a small box, in the front of which I cut a window aperture.  Behind  the aperture I stuck some acetate, and inside the box I placed a pair of first size baby socks.  You can get plain socks or ones with pink or blue lace around the tops and they look really cute.

You can decorate this box as much or as little as you like.  I tend to keep it reasonably plain.

Wrapped around the box is a plain card, cut and scored so that it is slightly bigger than the box.  I stick some ribbon around it for the ties before I decorate the front with the decoration.  On the inside left side of this card I usually put a pocket, with a pull out tag which contains the details of the baby’s birth, name etc but on this occasion I have just matted and layered the information.

I always put the whole thing in another box – it is more of a keepsake than a card then as the proud parents can always put things like the hospital tag etc in the box with the socks!

On this occasion I used a die to decorate the front of the card and in the colours chosen by the person I made the card for.

  1. What a fabulous card and gift. I love the embossing folder you have used and such a pretty shade of blue. Sally.x.
